Chireno Volunteer Fire Department

Chireno Volunteer Fire Department

Late in 1972 the Chireno Trailriders Association began to organize a Volunteer Fire Department for the City of Chireno. Jack Sowell was elected the first Fire Chief of the Chireno Volunteer Fire Department, and he held that position until his death August 6, 1976. At that time Jimmy Thorp was elected Fire Chief and served in that capacity for the next 11 years, with Al Zienko as Assistant Chief.

In 1991 the City of Chireno gave to the Chireno Volunteer Fire Department all the City’s interest to the Chireno Volunteer Fire Department. They passed title of the fire house and fire trucks. The Chireno Volunteer Fire Department now belongs wholly to the Chireno Volunteer Fire Department and to the courageous people that five so freely of their time to keep it going.
